Dr. Timothy L. Piland
Senior Pastor
Timothy L. Piland (Tim) is a native of Norfolk, Virginia. He and his wife, Sharon, have two children, Dr. Kelly Harvey, an ER Physician in Virginia and Rev. Matthew Piland, a Student Pastor in Georgia. Brother Tim came to Nansemond River in 1990 after serving for twelve years at the Waller Baptist Church in Bossier City, Louisiana. He is a graduate of Old Dominion University and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Regent University. He is also a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserves and enjoys Scuba diving, hiking, and backpacking.

Gary Vaughan
Associate Pastor, Small Groups, Discipleship & Family Ministry
Gary Vaughan served as Associate Pastor to Students from October 1996 to May 31, 2009; and moved to Small Groups, Discipleship, & Family Ministry. Gary is a native of Suffolk. Gary and his wife Stacey have two sons. Gary is a graduate of George Mason University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds a Masters of Arts in Christian Education. He enjoys sports, hunting, and hiking.

Jeff Walton
Associate Pastor, Children's Ministry & Counseling
Jeff Walton has served at Nansemond River since December of 2003. For two and a half years, he served as an assistant to Gary Vaughan in Student Ministry. In March of 2006, Jeff stepped into Children's Ministry and Counseling. Jeff graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Counseling. He is currently attending Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and is working on a Masters in Counseling. Jeff and his wife Mandy were married in May of 2003 and have three sons. Jeff loves Jesus and desires nothing more than to serve God wherever He leads in his family and in his ministry.

Mark Turner
Associate Pastor, Student Ministry
Mark is "7-5-7" through and through having grown up in Virginia Beach, attended high school in Chesapeake, worked in Norfolk, gone to college in Williamsburg, and made an occasional jaunt to Suffolk. Mark is an alumnus of The College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Religious Studies. He is also a graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity in Advanced Biblical Studies with Biblical languages. Mark has been married to his wife Whitney since June of 2007. He loves to teach the Bible, watch and play sports, discuss theology and culture, and watch the television show The Office and the comedian Brian Regan. Mark regularly blogs about theology, faith, and culture at renrutkram.
